Simple. Tasteful. Graphic &
Web Design.
Design
Problems? The
solutions are probably easier than you would imagine. The nineties
have made us all look hard at what we do, and how we do it. Simplicity
is the key. Flash is passe'. Glitz is gaudy. Our lives and work
are too busy, and we are looking for tranquility. Businesses
are approaching their presentation to the public in a quieter
way. Visual impact can be achieved more successfully and hold
ones attention longer with less flash. How long can a person
stare at the Vegas strip without getting a headache? The glow
of a fireplace or a sunset is far more compelling.
The strongest designs
are simple and recognizable. Modest icons that harken back to
the earliest cave paintings. Symbols with the elegance of Chinese
caligraphy. Images that carry the feeling of wholeness as basic
as a circle.
Simplicity doesn't mean
the designs have to be static or boring. Using DHTML and Javascripting
can lend interest and dynamic personality to your presentation
on the World Wide Web. The design work must fit the product.
DESIGN BASICS is a small studio in the heartland of
America. It has been around, in the soul of its owner, R. E.
Carlson, for years. He was raised by a Commercial Graphic Designer,
and first took drawing and painting classes at the School of
the Art Institute of Chicago at the age of 10. Soon, Robert was
cleaning water bowls and emptying waste baskets in his father's
studio. Jazz
playing on the radio, and people making images from nothing but
blank paper and paint, ink, and graphite....how much cooler could
it get?
Soon he was apprenticing
to the staff designers and his father. By the time Carlson was
half way through high school, he was working weekends and school
vacations doing what he loved....making images come alive. It
is still something that brings Robert great joy and is a pleasure
to share with others.
After school, he took
a detour to make Fine
Art Pottery. It has been his primary source of income for
the past 27 years. During that time Robert continued to work
in design through the neccessity of logos, brochures, business
cards, now web design, and a great many design projects that either
found him; or he was drawn to them.
As the years go by, Carlson
has been drawn more to graphical representation in his work.
The next logical step was to make those graphics available to
others. Your project or design problem could be Robert's next
challenge. Please e-mail
or phone: 931.526.6649 with any projects that you would care
to discuss.
